Annual Vestry Meeting of the Almondbury with Farnley Tyas Parish to be held on Sunday, May 15 2022 at 11am at St Lucius' Church, Farnley Tyas. AGENDA
AGENDA
A busy week at St Lucius' culminated in a well-attended and well appreciated Choral Evensong, sung by a choir of Huddersfield University students. Under conductor Daniel, Stanford's B flat setting of the canticles and Mozart's motet, Ave Verum Corpus, were sung by soprano Stella, Jo, Harrison and Isaac. A hot supper followed. A three-day community flower festival had come to a close the previous day. More than 20 people responded to the invitation to display hobby-based flower arrangements in church. Pastimes represented range from golf and fishing to bee-keeping and needlework. One exhibitor chose the theme of crosswords and quizzes while Farnley Tyas WI opted for 'Jam and Jerusalem'. All the displays showed great imagination. The hard work of the organisers was rewarded by a surplus of £1,600 which will go towards developing the heating and audio systems for the community space at St Lucius'. Our thanks go to all those who helped, participated and attended. Our curate, the Rev Professor Jessica Malay, left, has been licensed by the Bishop of Leeds as Associate Priest in the benefice of Almondbury with Farnley Tyas. Felicity, our Rector, writes: "Jessica has offered a great many gifts, wisdom and experience to the parish during her time as curate, and she is much loved and valued here. "I am so delighted that she will be staying with us in this new role. I'm sure you'll join me in wishing her congratulations, and in praying for her as she discerns the shape of her vocation within this new role. "We will be celebrating with Jessica after a joint parish service at All Hallows on February 27 at 10.30am, with cake and a glass of bubbly (or soft alternative!)" As well as her work as a priest, Jessica is Associate Dean of Research Innovation and Knowledge Exchange in the School of Arts and Humanities at Huddersfield University. She is a leading scholar of early modern women's writing and early modern culture. |
