The success of the cinema club at St Lucius' has been reported in the Leeds Diocesan News. Here is a link to the full story: shorturl.at/duwIK The story begins: 'New people are coming to church services, thanks to a recently-launched community cinema club. 'Worshippers at St Lucius Church, Farley Tyas have a hit on their hands since launching the club in Autumn last year, said Chris Thompson, one of the founders.' Weekly coffee mornings – 'Coffee, Cake and a Warm Welcome' – are to run each Friday at St Michael and St Helen's Church, Fleminghouse Lane, Almondbury. They will run alongside SMASH Food Share. The first one will be on February 23, between 9.30am and 12 noon, and everyone in the community is welcome. Happy New Year from all the team at SMASH Food Share which is run as a Parish Food Share by the three churches in the Almondbury with Farnley Tyas Parish. It is supported throughout the year by the generosity of their congregations along with:
In the run up to Christmas we were very grateful to:
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout 2023. With your help we in turn are helping approximately 50 families and individuals – almost 200 people – every week. SMASH Food Share is open every Friday morning from 9:30am to 12noon. We are a non referral charity, open to all to ‘Give what you Can and Take what you Need.’ The work to repair and redecorate the ceiling panels of the north and mount aisles of All Hallows’ Church is well underway. Work is now estimated to continue into the middle of January. It is likely that the total cost will exceed £60,000. If anyone is minded to contribute, please contact our treasurer, Eric Lord, via the Parish Office on 01484 541837. It’s the night before Christmas, and Bethlehem is holding its annual baking competition. This year, though, there are a few surprise contestants: some shepherds, a choir of angels and three wise-looking chaps on camels. There was a full house at St Lucius' Church for Bethlehem Bake Off, a nativity for primary children, delightfully performed by the pupils of Farnley Tyas First School. Well done to them all for a great production. On Thursday, November 2 – All Souls' Day – we shall remember this and give thanks for the lives of those we have loved who are no longer here with us on earth. We shall take to heart St Paul’s words that we have a sure and certain hope that nothing can separate us from the Love of God. So we shall commemorate our loved ones with love and gratitude with private and public prayer and by lighting a candle for each one if them. Join us at 6.30pm for our fairly short, reflective service. You will be very welcome. Saxophone legend Art Themen will play in a jazz concert at St Lucius' Church, Farnley Tyas, on Saturday, November 4. He'll be supported by Dean Stockdale, Dave Tyas and Ben Crossland. This a rare opportunity to see one of the UK's finest jazz musicians. Art has enjoyed a career spanning seven decades. He began playing blues in the 60s with Alexis Korner and Jack Bruce and played jazz alongside such luminaries as Michael Garrick, Ian Carr and Graham Collier. In 1974, he began a long term connection with Stan Tracey, playing in Stan's Quartet and his larger ensembles. He has toured with visiting US musicians, including Charlie Rouse, Nat Adderley, Red Rodney and George Coleman. A truly individual voice. The event starts at 7.30pm, with doors at 7.00pm. Tickets are £10. Refreshments in exchange for a donation. |
