A Service of Lessons and Carols was introduced to St Lucius' in 2017 when the newly formed Farnley Singers numbered nine. Since then the congregation has grown in proportion to the choir. In the early days the music was directed by Jim Cowell, who retired last year. As then, many of the singers are drawn from the Huddersfield Choral Society and come from far and wide. Some have remained loyal from the start. Among this year's ranks were two couples and a father and daughter, Jim and Jenny Stafford. We are hugely grateful to them all and to the lesson readers. This year we welcomed a new music director, Ruth Aldred, from Hepworth whose choice of carols ranged from medieval to modern, from Praetorius to Rutter. Thanks also to our wonderful home team who arranged the catering after the service. A joyful start to Christmas 2024.
