![]() Sunday, June 1, promises to be a particularly busy day at St Lucius'. Holy Communion at 11am will be celebrated by Canon Matthew Pollard, who will preach, and lunch will follow the service. A service of Evensong, led by Stephen Dufton, follows at 6.30pm and will conclude with an Italian themed supper, cooked and served by members of the congregation.. Born in Huddersfield, Matthew was encouraged by his parents, Brian and Hilary, to sing in the choir at All Hallows' under Malcolm Cruise. On leaving school, he went to Oxford University to study law. He practised as a solicitor and lived in West Yorkshire before leaving to train for the ministry. After ordination at Wakefield Cathedral, he served as a curate at Huddersfield Parish Church and as chaplain at the university. A spell as Rector of Bridlington followed before he was appointed to Ripon Cathedral, where he is Canon Chancellor, overseeing education opportunities, volunteering and rural ministry. A love of music, especially singing, remains with him.
